Challenges Faced by NAU Soccer and Football Teams
On October 9, the Northern Arizona University (NAU) women's soccer team experienced their first away loss of the season against Portland State University. The match concluded with an unfortunate own goal by NAU in the 87th minute, sealing a 1-0 defeat. Despite the Vikings? limited offense, with only five shots in the first half, they managed to capitalize on the Lumberjacks' defensive lapse late in the game.
In a subsequent match on October 11, the NAU football team faced off against the University of California, Davis, ultimately losing 45-24. The game showcased a rollercoaster of performance, starting with NAU taking an early lead before UC Davis surged ahead. Although the Lumberjacks managed to score a touchdown in the second half courtesy of sophomore running back Quran Gossett, defensive struggles allowed UC Davis to dominate the scoreline in the fourth quarter. This defeat brought NAU's season record to 4-3, with hopes to recover in their next game against Idaho State on October 25.
